Paul became one of Oliver’s owners at the beginning of 2012 when, on Andrew Nicholson’s recommendation, he moved Armada to Gadlas Farm. Paul has owned Armada (who is a full brother to Nereo) since he was a four-year-old, and describes him as a ‘once in a lifetime’ horse.
Why eventing? It’s huge fun, and a real sport – there’s no money in it. You always hope to win, but if your horse goes well you can’t really ask for more. I enjoy watching a young novice horse come through to four star. I also enjoy the social side, mixing with owners and riders.
Why Oliver? Andrew felt that across country Armada needed a strong rider. I’ve known Oliver for about 10 years and we’d occasionally talked about him having a go. I like his set up, the horses are happy and well looked after and he makes a fuss of them. He’s a character, and a good businessman. I think he’ll have a strong batch of 4* horses before long.
