Oliver had both Ridire Dorcha (an old ride of his who had been sold on a few years back) and MHS King Joules at Pau – it was Ridire Dorcha’s first run at 5*.
Ridire Dorcha kicked off the competition, first in to the dressage arena. He delivered a smart test for overnight 3rd – also marking a special occasion with it being Oliver’s 70th CCI5* start, only Andrew Nicholson having done more with 74. MHS King Joules did a smart test the following day to sit just ahead of his stablemate, inside the top 15.
Across country the boys were fabulous. MHS King Joules jumped clear inside the time without a full set of shoes showing what heart he has, and Ridire Dorcha stepped up to 5* in a very impressive way, just adding few time penalties.
On the final day Ridire Dorcha jumped a super clear round to finish 6th. MHS King Joules was a bit stiff after cross country and was not presented at the final horse inspection. He’s not a young gun anymore and he owes the team nothing so it was the right thing to do by him. Both boys are now heading home for a very well deserved holiday!
